High Concept
High School Ditch Day
is a sidescroller game about a student who is trying to sneak out of class and
out of school. This game is made for
people between the ages of 15 and 22. This game targets high school and college
students. This is the sort of game that
most high school and college students can relate to. Many students have at one time or another had
the urge to sneak out of a class and play hookie. Many high school and college
students can relate to this sort of game and would immediately be sucked into
the comedic nature of the premise.
Finally, students can play out their fantasies of ditching class without
actually having to get into trouble for doing it. This game comes across as being simplistic
conceptually yet has depth to it and is multifaceted.
The game should be created because there are few games out there that are about someone who tries to ditch class. This game will not have to face any competition because it
offers a unique
gaming experience. The only game out
there that comes close to “High School Ditch Day” is “Bully”. This will be the sort of game that people
eagerly await for release. There may be
some other people who have recently graduated college in their mid to late 20s
who find interest in this game.
The main characters are Jake Ellis
(Student), Mark Overton (Teacher), and Pedro Munoz(Security Guard). Jake is a mischievous, overworked student who
is fed up with his class load. He grew
up in suburban Los Angeles and is now attending the Art Institute of North
Hollywood. Jake has a basketball game
that starts 15 mins after class begins so he has to do his best to get out of
class as soon as possible. He must get
past the teacher in the class and the security guard who is either at the front
desk or roaming the hallways if he is to ditch class and watch his game.
This game will consist
of three levels. The first level takes
place at the 3rd floor at Hoover High School inside Science class at
11:00 am on June 21, 2012. For this
level Jake starts off sitting in his seat towards the back of the
classroom. He must do his best to sneak
out of class through either the front or back doorway.
The
2nd level takes place in the hallways of the 3rd floor. He must maneuver his way through the hallways
without getting caught by the security guard.
He must find his way to the elevator so that he can get to the bottom
floor.
The
3rd level begins as Jake gets off of the elevator at the bottom
floor. From here he must sneak out to
the front doorway which is being closely guarded by the guard who is seated at
the front desk. If he can get out of the
building in 10 mins he will have enough time to run to his house and watch the
game.
The
objective is for Jake to get past the teacher and the security guard in enough
time to watch the game. The teacher has
a pointer stick which he can use to whack Jake.
He can also pick up the phone to call the security guard. The Security Guard has a tazer which he can
use to attack Jake with.
Jake
can take a combined 3 hits until he must start over. Jake can pick up boosts to increase his
abilities or items that may decrease his abilities in different areas. The worm will slow Jake down.
The
apple will give Jake more health.
The
clock will give Jake an additional minute if he finds one.
Jake
can use a slingshot to hit the teacher or security guard with.
The
obstacles of this game are the worm, the teacher, and the security guard. In each level you have to avoid being seen by
the teacher or the security guard as you try to evade them. A suspicion meter will increase as Jake gets
close to leaving a level by either exiting a door or entering an elevator. To pass level 1 Jake must get out of the
classroom. To pass level 2 Jake must
move past the hallway on the 3rd floor and onto the elevator. To pass the 3rd level and win the
game Jake must maneuver his way past the lobby hallway, past the security front
desk, and out the front door.
Timeline
Roles Needed:
1 Art director- The art director will be in charge of
deciding how the visual component of the game will be designed. The types of colors, and artistic style that
will be implemented. The video game art
director will create the artistic vision for the game.
1 Producer- The video game producer will be the person in
charge of overseeing development of the game.
1 Character
Designer- The character designer will be
in charge of creating the final look of the characters as well as modeling them
out.
1 Director- The director will be in charge of making sure
that the entire process of the creation of the game runs smoothly. He will make sure that everyone is on the
same page and collaborating well with each other.
1 Asset Designer- Asset designer will be in charge of choosing
the look and types of assets that will be used in the game.
1 Animator- The animator will be in charge of animating
the characters.
1 Programmer- The programmer will be in charge of
programming the game and writing the script for the game to run smoothly and
effectively.
1 Background and
Layout Artist- The background and layout
artist will be in charge of creating the backgrounds for the 3 levels. He/she will decide what is implemented and
will work in close coordination with the 3D Modeler and other members of the
team to create the background.
1 Game Designer- The game designer will be in charge of the
overall design and of the look of the game.
1 Storyboard
Artist- The storyboard artist will be in
charge of drawing out the sequence of events as they occur in the game. This is very important as the storyboard
artist will create visual representations of how the different levels will look
and the actions as they occur within each level.
1 Sound Engineer- The sound engineer will be in charge of the
sound effects and music for the game.
1 3D Modeler- The 3D modeler will be in charge of creating
3D models using Maya to fill up the levels.
Each person will be required to put
in 40 hours per week. The entire project
will take 3 months to complete. The
following are the specific jobs that each person will do.
1)
The
Art Director will have to create the artistic layout for the game in the first week. Throughout the 3 months he will continue to
tweak things as needed.
2)
The Producer will be working in close
conjunction with many individuals. The
Producer will develop and maintain the schedule of everyone and the
budgets. The producer will also monitor
the creative and technical development of the game. So basically the art and design as well as
the game programming. The producer will
also arrange the QA (Quality Assurance).
3)
The Director will report to the lead
video game producer and transport vital information to the rest of the video
game development team.
4)
The Asset Designer will create unique
textures.
5)
The animator will be in charge of
animating the three characters. He will
be responsible for finishing one character per month.
6)
The programmer will be held responsible
for writing all of the scripts necessary for the game to function. This includes interactions between the
characters and their environment.
7)
The background and layout artist is
expected to finish the different backgrounds of the levels within a 2 month
period.
8)
The game designer is expected to design
the entire game within the first 6 weeks.
9)
The storyboard artist is expected to
complete all of the storyboards within one week.
10)
The sound engineer will be given 2 months to
complete all of the sound of the game.
11)
The 3D modeler will be kept on for the
duration of the project (3 months). To
model everything that must be modeled.
